May perform duties of surgical technician.<br/><br/>Job Responsibilities: Trains animal husbandry staff, principal investigators, and research staff to perform animal handling, evaluations and techniques. Receives animal shipments and evaluates during quarantine period. Administers medical treatments to animals as prescribed. Assists with the performance of special techniques or procedures; may perform the duties of a Surgery Technician. Monitors condition of post-operative animals. Develops and implements animal health monitoring plan under direction of Veterinarian. Ensures that areas used for technical procedures are well maintained and adequately supplied. May assist with obtaining special drugs or equipment. Maintains records. Other duties as assigned.<br/><br/>Education: Associate's Degree in veterinary technician program.<br/><br/>Experience: At least two (2) years of experience with demonstrated competence as a veterinary technician.<br/><br/>Licensure/Certification/Registration: Licensed in Ohio as a Veterinary Technician (VT). American Association of Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) certification preferred. Must have a valid Ohio Driver's license (VDL) and a good, safe driving record to drive a Foundation vehicle. Must be willing to be trained to properly handle all species of animals housed within the BRU and be enrolled in the Occupational Health Program of the BRU.<br/><br/>Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and transport supplies, equipment, and/or animals weighing over 50 pounds; frequent standing, bending, and walking; must be able to tolerate unpleasant odors and sights, as well as animal bites and scratches; must have the ability to complete the job before leaving work. Animal care is a 7-day per week, 365-days per year job. All tasks must be performed to fulfill guidelines according to regulations.
