Summary: Performs the function of assigning all ICD-9-CM, CPT-4, and HCPCS codes in accordance with standard coding guidelines and assures compliance with these guidelines. Monitors inpatient and outpatient unbilled accounts to ensure departmental goals are met and coding turnaround times are within acceptable standards.

Job Responsibilities: Reviews weekly unbilled reports to monitor ancillary unbilled accounts to achieve targeted goals for coding staff and reports to Coding Reimbursement Coordinator on a weekly basis. Recommends process improvements when necessary that will facilitate the coding/billing process. Recommends process changes or additional duties for staff in order to impact unbilled goals and coding turnaround time as needed. Identifies interface and system issues and immediately notifies the System's Analyst or Coding Supervisor of what the issue is. Other duties as assigned.

Education: High school diploma required with post secondary education in health care related classes including medical terminology.

Experience: Must have at least 1 year working experience in health care related setting with demonstrated knowledge of PC applications including Microsoft Windows. Knowledge of HBOC & 3M system preferred. Must be able to process information in a logical way to solve daily operational problems with little or no direction from management. ICD-9-CM and CPT4 coding classes from an accredited program or accredited course from AHIMA or APCC within the past 3 years. Knowledge of DRG's, APC's, and reimbursement methodology preferred.
