Experience with experimental design, data collection, as well as statistical analysis of data, and interpretation of results. Excellent communicator.

Neurosciences: A research technician position is available at a well established lab to study LPS-induced neuro-protective effect. A Bachelor's Degree in Biological Sciences, with about two years of experience in a research or clinical laboratory. Familiarity with basic experimental techniques such as immunohistochmistry, ELISA, qPCR, and Western blotting is required. S/he must be comfortable handling laboratory rodents. Experience with flow cytometry and/or confocal microscopy would be beneficial, but not required. The candidate is self-motivated and a team player. S/he is responsible for the assigned laboratory work, reagent preparation, ordering supplies, and daily maintenance of required documentation.

Molecular Cardiology: No preferred qualifications

Pathobiology: The technician must have an interest in working with animals, and in performing molecular cell biology techniques as well as in planning and establishing procedures required for experimental studies. Familiarity with mice models and with IACUC/e-Sirius is desirable.

Mounts, labels and distributes prepared microscope slides to pathologists or to appropriate areas for interpretation. Prepares reagents buffers, solutions and stains. Replaces reagents and performs daily maintenance on processors. Demonstrates necessary computer skills, has knowledge of computer programs,and performs computer activities in order to effectively perform tests, data entry of patient and specimen information, collect statistics or review patient information. Maintains cleanliness of assigned instrumentation and/or equipment. Performs general maintenance and quality control of equipment. Completes and maintains preventative maintenance and troubleshooting records. May repair instruments/equipment and/or initiates requests for instrument/equipment repair and/or service through vendors and/or Clinical Engineering. Sections frozen tissue specimens using the cryostat when necessary. Files surgical and autopsy blocks as required. Other duties as assigned.

Education: Must be ASCP certification eligible in the field of histology.

Experience: None; one year preferred.

Licensure/Certification/Registration: Must be ASCP certification eligible in the field of histology.

Physical Requirements: Requires manual dexterity and visual acuity when handling specimens, slides and utilizing instrumentation. Ability to safely handle potentially infectious patient specimens, carcinogenic substances, odorous and other hazardous materials to which they may be exposed. Research Technologist:

Summary: Assists in establishing and participating with a research program in the laboratory. Proactively involved in assigned research projects. Responsible for the daily maintenance of assigned research laboratory.

Job Responsibilities: Plans, organizes, performs and monitors daily project protocols. Collects, prepares and maintains required research documentation, including informed consent records, case records, clinical notes and medical reports. Reports and assists with the management of protocol deviations, adverse events and other project-related issues. Responsible for the general maintenance and upkeep of the lab. Orders and purchases supplies as directed from the supervisors. Gathers information on new equipment necessary in the lab and recommends purchases. Other duties as assigned.

Education: Bachelor's degree in biological sciences or related field and knowledge of laboratory maintenance and equipment, or Master's degree in biological sciences or related field and one year experience.

Experience: Minimum of two years of experience in a research or related laboratory environment. Licensure/Certification/Registration: None required.

Research Technician:

Summary: Under the supervision and guidance of the Research Staff Investigator or Technologist, performs the following functions; performs laboratory techniques and procedures required for experimental studies projects as assigned; assists with establishing and scheduling various procedures and analysis; conducts tests and procedures utilizing various laboratory equipment and instrumentation; assembles experimental results for review by various staff; may order laboratory supplies and equipment; performs other related duties required to meet the objective of projects.

Job Responsibilities: Performs laboratory techniques procedures required from experimental studies. Performs and is responsible for technical lab duties as delegated by the Research Staff Supervisor related to the assigned project. Assumes responsibility for scheduling and performing the various analysis needed to complete the project. Assists with establishing and scheduling of various procedures and analysis. Prepares reagents, purifies chemicals using chromatography, distillation, etc., identifies, separates and quantifies various substances. Conducts tests and procedures utilizing various laboratory equipment and instrumentation. Accumulates data from analyses, prepares charts, graphs, statistical tables for presentation to Research Staff Supervisor for final analysis and preparation for publication, grant proposals and applications for research funds. May order laboratory supplies and equipment. Other duties as assigned.

Education: Knowledge of basic laboratory procedures, techniques, methods and analysis sufficient to perform a variety of research protocols; basic knowledge of quantitative and statistical methods normally attained through completion of a Bachelor's Degree in a biological science major or a related field of study.

Experience: A minimal amount of applicable experience may be considered to offset up to one year of the college degree requirements. After selection and placement into this position, up to six months of on-the-job training required to become familiar with laboratory techniques, procedures and research protocols.
