Summary:

This position is responsible for the coordination of the Magnet Recognition Program for nursing and developing strategic goals for maintaining Magnet status designation. Additionally, this position develops and oversees unit-based and nursing discipline patient safety initiatives in collaboration with clinical leadership.

Duties and Responsibilities:

* Assumes responsibility for the organization, coordination and administration of the Magnet Recognition Program ® at CCAD to support the practice of nursing and the delivery of patient care
* Manages the completion of the Magnet application
* Performs or monitors personnel management functions, which includes interviewing and selecting candidates, directing the performance management program and managing corrective action issues
* Identifies and tracks metrics to measure effectiveness of programs, initiatives and changes
* Collaborates with nursing directors and managers to ensure that the Magnet Standards of Care are met and related programs are developed, maintained and evaluated
* Develops frameworks for professional practice consistent with Magnet standards
* Provides education and leadership to nurses regarding the practical application of patient safety and Magnet Program principles and goals
* Identifies risks, through both formal and informal methods, that need to be addressed and collaborates with nursing directors and managers to develop strategies to mitigate and reduce clinical nursing risk
* Promotes a culture of safety within nursing at CCAD
* Serves as an expert resource within nursing for patient safety issues
* Develops patient education and nursing/patient support systems for the application of patient safety principles
* Facilitates the incorporation of patient safety and Magnet principles into clinical nursing care
* Collaborates with nursing quality personnel in the analysis of patient safety data and the implementation of strategies for the prevention/reduction of patient safety errors
* Develops and/or participates in research or performance improvement projects that demonstrate the impact of patient safety strategies on clinical outcomes
* Quantifies the business impact (e.g., investment, cost, savings, ROI, etc.) of Magnet and Patient Safety initiatives and programs
* Identifies nursing specific patient safety goals and approach for measuring and monitoring
* Develops and manages programs that promote the profession and recognition of nursing
* Identifies opportunities for nursing innovation at CCAD
* Educates CCAD on Magnet recognition

Experience:

* Minimum of six (6) years post graduate experience is required
* Minimum of two (2) years experience as a senior charge nurse or three (3) years experience as a charge nurse is required
* International accreditation experience is preferred
* Indication of progressive leadership, management and clinical positions is preferred
* Knowledge and expertise in all areas of patient safety
* Ability to produce reports in a timely fashion
* Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
* Strong oral and written communication skills
* Ability to speak and write in English is required
* Ability to speak and write in both English and Arabic is preferred
* Health care industry experience is preferred

Education Requirements:

* Bachelor’s degree in Nursing is required
* Valid and current national nursing license is required
* Evidence of a passing NCLEX or equivalent is required
* Certificate or post graduate diploma in Health Services Management is preferred
* Certified proof of yearly CNE is required

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

* Typical physical demands include: a high degree of manual dexterity to sufficiently perform computer functions on a keyboard, produce materials on a PC and operate basic office equipment, normal or corrected vision and hearing, extensive sitting, standing and/or walking, working under stressful conditions and some irregular hours, handling or lifting patients, mobility sufficient to visit with departments or employees throughout CCAD and lift up to 30 lbs.
