Job Details:

Summary: Supports the SQL Server databases and ensures their performance, availability and security. Responsibilities include the development of the logical data model and the conversion of the logical model into the relational database model. The DBA is responsible for the uptime, performance and overall health of all SQL Servers and supporting systems and infrastructure. The DBA is also responsible for planning and implementing upgrades, ensuring system integrity and monitoring and establishing security protocols.

Job Responsibilities:

• Responsible for ensuring availability and performance of the databases.

• Design, build, and implement the application database (tables, indexes, triggers, procedures, views, etc.)

• Work with development team and technical architect to accomplish project goals

• Manage SQL Server environment including security, back-up, restore, recovery and continuity processed

• Setup and monitor SQL Server processes and jobs

• Create, implement, and manage data management and migration processes

• Analyze and sustain capacity and performance requirements

• Analyze, consolidate and tune database for optimal efficiency

• Oversee backup, clustering, mirroring, replication and failover

• Install and test upgrades/patches and maintain server upgrade schedules

• Ensure the integrity and security of any collected data

• Other duties as assigned.

Education: Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or Business Administration.

Experience: Minimum five years of experience. Experience with supporting SQL Server databases in a large production environment.

Preferred Job Skills:

• Relational Database Design – Normalization

• Translation of requirements (ERD, class diagrams, etc.) into a design that can be implemented

• Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and higher (or related enterprise level database including Oracle, DB2, Sybase, etc.)

• Data Cleansing and Migration – Data Transformation Services

• Stored Procedures

• Triggers

• Database backup procedures

• Structure Query Language (SQL)

• Database performance management and tuning

• ODBC level data integration

• Enterprise data integration platforms

• An understanding of HL7 (not required but preferred)

• Basic understanding of data warehousing and business intelligence concepts

Licensure/Certification/Registration: None

Complexity of Work:

- Strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices

• Well versed with writing and tuning T-SQL procedures and DTS/SSIS packages

• Practical experience in managing the internal and external MS SQL database security

• Strong communication skills, both written and oral

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Physical Requirements:

Typical physical demands include a high degree of dexterity to produce materials on a computer. Requires normal or corrected vision and hearing and the ability to verbally communicate with employees and patients. Physical demands include office work and the mobility sufficient to attend meetings in clinical departments throughout the Clinic. Ability to lift up to twenty pounds. The position must be available after hours for support by pager and computer dial-in.
