MEDICAL SECRETARY I

Summary: Performs a variety of duties to support administration of the assigned department(s).

Job Responsibilities: Composes, types and transcribes correspondence, forms, reports, presentation materials and other written communications as required. Receives and screens visitors. Answers and screens telephone calls; handles general inquiries. Schedules and coordinates meetings, conferences, special events and appointments. Makes travel arrangements. Maintains assigned calendar(s). Establishes and maintains filing systems. Orders and stocks supplies. Other duties as assigned.

Education: High School Diploma or GED. Two years of college or business school preferred.

Experience: Minimum two years secretarial experience. Associates Degree or coursework in secretarial science, business administration or related field may substitute for year of required experience. Minimum 35 wpm typing assessment with accuracy required.

Licensure/Certification/Registration: N/A

Physical Requirements: Typical physical demands include a high degree of dexterity to produce materials on a PC, normal or corrected vision, extensive sitting and frequent walking, occasional lifting or carrying of up to 25 pounds.

MEDICAL SECRETARY II

Summary: Under the direction of a physician or group of physicians responsible for one or more medical sections; performs secretarial and administrative support activities for the office. Functions as liaison inter and intra departmentally.

Job Responsibilities: Composes, types and transcribes correspondence, forms, reports, presentation materials and other written communications as required. Receives and screens visitors and telephone calls, and handles general inquiries. Schedules/coordinates meetings, conferences, special events, appointments and travel arrangements. Maintains assigned calendar(s). Establishes and maintains filing systems. Orders and stocks supplies. Other duties as assigned.

Education: High School Diploma or GED. Two years of college or business school preferred. Associate's Degree or equivalent coursework in secretarial science, business administration or other related field may substitute for one year of the required experience. After selection and placement, requires up to six months training to learn patient access, department and CC procedures and policies.

Experience: Minimum two years secretarial experience in a medical, commercial or industrial environment. Knowledge of office procedures, protocols, organization and office systems; knowledge of correspondence formatting, grammar, spelling and punctuation; knowledge of basic mathematics. Requires a minimum demonstrated typing proficiency of 35 wpm with accuracy; knowledge of the operation of a variety of PC or word processing systems. Knowledge of medical terminology gained through experience or formal coursework may be required. Requires excellent interpersonal skills and strong oral, written communication skills and good organization skills.

MEDICAL SECRETARY III

Summary: Under the direction of a Medical Department Chair or Medical Vice Chair, performs secretarial duties of a complex and sensitive nature; functions as liaison with inter and intra departmental units; provides administrative support to the department.

Receives and screens visitors and telephone calls, and handles general inquiries. Schedules/coordinates meetings, conferences, special events, appointments and travel arrangements. Maintains assigned calendar(s). Establishes and maintains filing systems. Orders and stocks supplies. Other duties as assigned.
