Summary: Performs blood collection, specimen transport and other associated duties.
Job Responsibilities: Performs blood collection procedures. Verifies order requests and identifying information prior to drawing blood. Labels all specimens collected; and delivers them to the Central Processing Area. Follows venipuncture control procedures and maintains appropriate log sheets. Completes test request entry and specimen receipt using lab computer. Assists in Central Processing Area accessioning and centrifugation tasks. Accurately communicates essential information to appropriate personnel. Actively listens. Promotes effective communication flow . Picks up and delivers specimens to appropriate areas. Picks up blood and other specimens from assigned areas and delivers to appropriate processing area. Picks up lab supplies and delivers to appropriate area. Maintains a customer service orientation; interacts in a pleasant, courteous and cordial manner. Participates in team discussions, provides problem solving ideas and completes quality improvement team goals. Other duties as assigned.
Education: High School Diploma or GED.
Experience: None
Licensure/Certification/Registration: Formal phlebotomy certification preferred.
Physical Requirements: Requires frequent standing and walking. Manual dexterity sufficient to manipulate blood drawing equipment and make measurements. Visual acuity including the ability to distinguish colors.
