Summary: Using telephonic interaction as the mode of delivery, facilitates callers access to appropriate level of care by assessing needs, offering clinical option, referral to health care providers, services and community resources.Promotes wellness and informed decisions by providing health information, home care advice and prevention concepts.
Job Responsibilities: Demonstrates the ability to use the nursing process and independent decision making. Provides phone triage of consumer health status using general, pediatric and emergency medicine protocols. Acts as a consumer advocate by resolution of problems or communication of consumer needs and concerns to appropriate resources. Initiates written follow-up communication for each encounter using computer notes and referral authorization. Responds to consumer requests for physician referral and/or health information. Exhibits a workable knowledge of teaching protocol in health care and preventive pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric populations. Maintains current knowledge base, including triage skills, and appropriate teaching principles for all age groups. Attends CPR review and a minimum of 3 job related in-services per year. Other duties as assigned.
Education: Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing.
Experience: Minimum three years experience as a Registered Nurse with demonstrated competence in all aspects of nursing care and independent decision making. Experience in telephone triage, emergency medicine, adult/pediatric ambulatory care, home health care, or ICU preferred.
Licensure/Certification/Registration: Current state licensure as an RN. CPR certification required.
Physical Requirements: Ability to sit for long periods of time within a confined space. Requires full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity of eye hand coordination. Requires corrected vision and hearing to a normal range. Sedentary Work – Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (Occasionally: activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently (Frequently: activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
