General Summary:
Under the supervision of the EMU supervisor, the tech reader reviews and evaluates RAW EEG and video data in the adult epilepsy monitoring units. Technologist is responsible for daily scanning, documentation and annotation of ictal, interictal and paroxysmal events. Maps interictal and ictal patterns and creation of permanent file clips which represent these findings. Details patient history from patient interviews and writes daily monitoring progress notes in the patient hospital charts. Writes final report and detailed description of EEG patterns, seizure semiology, radiologic findings, mapping of ictal and interictal abnormalities and selection of representative EEG samples for inclusion in the summary of the Video/EEG monitoring report, performed under the supervision of a Board Certified Epileptologist (Staff Physician). Edits and archives EEG and video data of patients Video/EEG monitoring.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge in all areas of general EEG testing and instrumentation and demonstrated competency of long term epilepsy monitoring techniques and patient interviews.
Required Length and Type of Experience
Minimum two years recent technical experience in epilepsy long term monitoring, routine EEG lab with exposure to long term monitoring on BedsideMonitoring systems or any combination of such experience.
Required Licensure, Certification or Registry
Registered EEG Technologist with CPR certification.
Required Physical and Environmental Demands
Manual dexterity in order to place electrodes precisely and to operate recording equipment. Ability to assist with positioning and transporting of patients, pushing beds, carts and wheelchairs. Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds. Possible exposure to communicable diseases and body fluids. Requires corrected hearing and vision to normal range.
