Summary: This position coordinates, facilitates, and designates all in-patient bed assignments for Enterprise admissions (Direct, Hospital Transfers, Emergency Room, and Post-Anesthesia Care) and internal transfers by placing the patient in the right level of care (through InterQual Application), in the right hospital, on the right floor, at the right time, to receive the right care while collaborating with internal and external physicians. Job Responsibilities: Utilizes effective & professional assessment skills, obtained through experience & education with Patients, Staff Physicians, Nurses, Care Managers, Social Workers and Clerical Staff internally & externally for all interactions personally & telephonically to quickly assess patients condition and use collaboration and negotiation skills to appropriately place the patient throughout the health system. Applies solid understanding, gained through experience & education, of the Throughput complexities & processes of each Hospital (Regional & Main Campus) to seamlessly facilitate & achieve Enterprise bed placement. Must be clinically savvy & incorporate nursing & management experience with critical thinking skills & Business Intelligence tools to achieve optimal outcomes (clinically & financially) for patients, physicians, nurses, hospital personnel, local communities & Cleveland Clinic. Applies quick & accurate processing skills, with each admission, of clinical information from Electronic Medical Records, multiple databases & phone calls to assess a patient's condition & clinical needs to accomplish the most appropriate patient placement using available resources for positive medical outcomes & positive patient experiences. Demonstrates cost effective management of Enterprise assets to enable Cleveland Clinic to provide World Class Care to every patient. Other duties as assigned. Education: Current knowledge of nursing theory and practice normally gained minimally through a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing Science or may consider a Certificate or Degree in Nursing with a Bachelor's Degree in a related field. Recent demonstration of clinical nursing and administrative or managerial skills required. Excellent oral and written communication skills necessary to provide superior customer service. Computer literate to include knowledge in Microsoft Word, Excel, ADT, and EPIC. Will be trained in InterQual (appropriate level of care) application within 120 days of employment. Experience: Minimum of 5 years recent progressive clinical experience on an in-patient nursing unit and minimum of 2 years supervisory experience in Healthcare or 5 years supervisory experience in unrelated industry. Licensure/Certification/Registration: Minimum BSN or RN with a Bachelor's Degree and Current Ohio RN license and BCLS certification. Physical Requirements: Requires direct patient contact and interaction, physical ability to walk long distances frequently, sitting for long periods of time, multi-tasking, manual dexterity to operate computers and normal or corrected vision. Requires working under stressful and emergent situations with the ability to maintain composure in any situation in order to provide superior customer service and ensure proper patient placement. Must be able to perform multiple functions simultaneously without supervision and learn new practices quickly. May require travel to multiple Cleveland Clinic Facilities during shift. Light Work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible. NOTE: The constant stress and strain of maintaining a production rate pace, especially in an industrial setting, can be and is physically demanding of a worker even though the amount of force exerted is negligible.
