GENERAL SUMMARY:

Performs the following functions: Assigns ICD-9 codes and CPT procedure codes from patient chart notes according to coding Guidelines making sure all codes and charges reflect documentation, including Lab, Pharmacy and Radiology. Sends and follows up with physicians on coding queries. Reviews and corrects charges and dates based on documentation. Communicates with facility billers when additional information is needed by patient account services. Works with Patient Access to correct registration errors. Analyze facility denials. Work with Billing Coordinator to ensure chargemaster includes current procedures being performed in clinics.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Associate's in Arts College Degree preferred

CPT-4 and ICD9-CM experience

*
knowledge of billing procedures, typing and word processing

*
Good interpersonal and communications skills.

Required Length and Type of Experience:

Minimum 5 years experience with CPT/ICD9 coding

Medical billing and/or reimbursement experience

Required Licensure or Certification:

CCS. RHIT, or CPC

*
CCA preferred
