Job Details:
Summary: Monitors coding compliance, develops and implements ongoing educational activities for coding and medical staff, and develops process improvement activities based on audit results. Acts as a resource for coding issues and questions from internal and external staff. This position works directly with the Coding Education & Quality Supervisor to develop ongoing educational programs for coding, medical staff and other hospital staff as necessary.
Job Responsibilities: Participates in the development of strategic goals and assures implementation of objectives related to coding operations. Performs monthly audits on coding staff to assure that quality goals on met. Recommends process improvements when necessary that will facilitate the coding/billing process. Provides coding backup when indicated by departmental needs. Other duties as assigned.
Education: Associate's Degree in Health Information Management (RHIT) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) designation required.
Experience: Three to five years of acute care coding experience and in monitoring the qualtiy of coded data and training of staff. Knowledge of the hospital revenue cycle required. Demonstrated advanced knowledge of PC applications including Windows and medical terminology required. Knowledge of HBOC & 3M system preferred. Demonstrated ICD-9-CM and CPT-4 coding expertise.
Licensure/Certification/Registration: RHIT or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) required.
Physical Requirements: Physical demands require standing, walking, sitting, lifting, carrying up to 25 lbs. Close, distant, and color vision is required. Requires manual dexterity to grasp and handle records and to operate a PC computer in the course of work. The work environment is at a moderate noise level (business office with phones, copiers, computers, and printers).
